Executive Director, Aboriginal Victoria
Jason Mifsud is a member of the Gunditjmara nation in South West Victoria and the Executive Director for Aboriginal Victoria, Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Aboriginal Victoria works with communities and other partners to lead the whole-of-government Aboriginal affairs reform agenda to enhance the lives of Aboriginal Victorians. Aboriginal Victoria is also responsible for the implementation of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and the Aboriginal Lands Act 1970. Aboriginal Victoria is currently leading the self-determination strategy between the Victorian Government and Victorian Aboriginal community that also includes a potential Treaty agreement, an Australian first.
A former player and Assistant Coach with the St Kilda Football Club and Western Bulldogs Football Club, Jason has worked in the Aboriginal community controlled sector for over ten 10 years delivering significant community projects in justice and health.
He was the first Senior Adviser, Indigenous and Multicultural Affairs for the Australian Football League (AFL) overseeing major reach and impact and was the architect in establishing the AFL Indigenous Advisory Council.
Jason is a Harvard Business School Alumni, has addressed the United Nations on Cultural Affairs and currently sits on the Board for the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre, the NAB Indigenous Advisory Group, AFL Indigenous Advisory Council and Telstra Indigenous Advisory Council.
